The Challenge

Using an in-state rivalry to unite communities, help others, and highlight incredible student athletes.

The Opportunity

Long-time client State Farm asked us to develop a rivalry platform between Arizona State University and the University of Arizona and use the opportunity to reach beyond the field of competition into local communities.

The Result

We created the State Farm Territorial Cup Series, known as one of the premiere sponsored rivalry platforms in the country and whose name was inspired by the trophy awarded to the winning football team in their annual game. Our team commissioned Reed & Barton to design the new series trophy, a silversmith located in Massachusetts that created the original Territorial Cup Trophy back in 1899. Within this series platform, we created the State Farm Territorial Cup Series Food Fight and the State Farm Good Neighbor Team.

The three-pronged approach is what was truly unique about the Series in that it went beyond the field of competition and into local communities through the State Farm Territorial Cup Series Food Fight and the State Farm Good Neighbor Team. The goal was to not only spotlight ALL athletic programs offered by each university, but also to help alleviate hunger in the state of Arizona and address the educational funding challenges each university was experiencing, through the Good Neighbor Team which recognized the efforts of student athletes at each University who exemplified all that is right about collegiate athletics.
